Gigi’s Travel Diary

This blog is a collection of stories and lessons I have learned while travelling as a twenty-something year old woman. Some stories involve me alone, some involve family and friends, but all revolve around this big beautiful world we live in. There will be recommendations, warnings, and tips on how to make the most out of adventures.

Pictures above is me in Catalina Sicily, on what was a very eventful trip with my grandparents!

Lets start with travel buddies…

First off, before jumping on a plane across the world, think to yourself, “do I want all of these memories associated with this person?”. Now I am all for making new friends when you land somewhere new, but bringing someone else along? That’s a commitment.

Absolutely Bring them

  • Parents
  • Grandparents
  • Siblings

Now obviously

There will always be someone thinking, “but Gigi! I hate my sister/mother/grandpa!” and that is completely valid, don’t travel with them then. But generally speaking, these are people that are going to be watching your back, and that you won’t look back in 10 years and think, “can you believe I went to Burma with that b*tch?”.

Choosing people that you have a connection with that is solid is always a good choice. And I am a huge advocate for traveling with your parents/grandparents if you have the ability to. Their time on this Earth is limited, and making memories with them while you have the chance is so incredibly important.

The Best Friend Conundrum

Look, I know you want to go on the three week trip with your college bestie. Believe me, I get it. But let this be an official warning, unless you have lived together, or spent an extended period of time staying together, don’t jump into a huge trip right off the bat. Try a weekend getaway first, then a weeklong stay somewhere, but believe me, planning a trip with someone brings out the worst and its veeery easy to go from BFFs to blocked.

Travel Solo

Its scary! And it can be lonely, but it is so liberating.
